    @povoq@slrpnk.net okay, yes. This is true, once it leaves the local server there are no guarantees.

    However I'd have to ask whether there is an acceptable tradeoff in risk of content exposure.

    After all, even in local private groups, things could get leaked via copy-paste, screenshots, etc. The weakest link is the social element.

    At a guess, private piefed communities don't federate because once content federates, you can't control who can see it. All you can do is hope that the remote instance will follow the privacy settings, but you can't enforce them.

    Private lemmy communities don't federate because they don't exist.

    Because once it leaves the server there is no guarantee that the remote server understands or even respects the notion that it should be private.

    Lemmy doesn't have private communities yet afaik.

    Emoji reactions are a big one - rather than voting you can apply an emoji, which is a much richer expression.

    Every community can have different settings for who can downvote. Here are the options:

    I'm working on federation issues.👻 Release v3.1.2 of Ktistec improves support for Lemmy and community servers like it that distribute content by wrapping it in Announce activities (FEP-1b12: Group federation support). Ktistec also supports the audience property, although support for that was removed from Lemmy earlier this year.🎃 This release also adds support for delivering to shared inboxes, which are widely supported by other ActivityPub servers. Despite being federated, the Fediverse is not highly distributed, and this optimization can reduce outbound delivery traffic by 10-20x.AddedSupport for the Dislike activity.Support for the audience property on activities and objects.Support for delivery to shared inboxes.Support for full-width hash signs in hashtags (e.g. ＃日本語) commonly used in Japanese and other Asian languages.FixedStrip HTML from object summaries rather than escaping it.Properly unwrap Lemmy-style Announce activities.ChangedDestroy discarded drafts instead of deleting them.Enjoy!#ktistec #fediverse #activitypub #crystallang

    My own little corner of the #fediverse is officially live! I just migrated my old user @9tom@mastodon.social to my own #snac instance @thoe@snac.9space.no and it went surprisingly smooth. Now I just have to keep the old #slackware server humming!
