Now that it's consistently below freezing we can experiment with making ice outside. First attempt with a shallow plastic cylinder, but only the top and sides really froze after 12 hours.
Last year I used a little goat cheese “pyramid” container and got a wide variety of results (2nd & 3rd photo). I think distilled water produces the clearest ice. No idea on what causes the spiky air bubbles. -
