Now that it's consistently below freezing we can experiment with making ice outside. First attempt with a shallow plastic cylinder, but only the top and sides really froze after 12 hours.
Last year I used a little goat cheese “pyramid” container and got a wide variety of results (2nd & 3rd photo). I think distilled water produces the clearest ice. No idea on what causes the spiky air bubbles. -

@jalefkowit there's a handful of musicians that are just kind of perfect. They've continued to be really cool, interesting, and relevant through decades, and someone I always want to hear talk about music. Marr is one of them. Stewart Copeland, Nile Rodgers, and Pino Palladino spring to mind as other examples.
