Thinking about how humans didn't just up and invent language, cuz all animals have languages.
It's just at some point our language stopped sounding like monkey noises and started sounding like vaguely human noises.
I wonder how quickly it changed, though.
Language is a product of evolving culture and technology. We create things, learn, and develop memes around them. New stuff means new words, and eventually those words change depending on how much we care about the thing.
We have little idea how any of these things changed from year to year. All we have is our ancestors' trash to study.Yeah, archaeology is literally the study of old trash. We dig up what dead people left behind and study it to figure out what their life was like.
In a way, detectives are like archaeologists but for stuff that happened basically yesterday. -
