Looks like there’s a Mastodon identity verification scam going around.

Good rule of thumb: if a web site asks you to verify your identity, you close that browser tab.

The scam letter looks like this (thanks to @amministratore):

Using AI to create a sophisticated 'plausible', scam is quite disturbing. I wonder how many have fallen for it, and these are very likely people who care about privacy a lot. I wonder who's behind this particular scam anyway? I can imagine a few scenarios.

It happened early this morning. I didn't realize we were the only instance affected. We removed the account within a few minutes, so maybe they got scared of looking too suspicious and didn't try the same trick elsewhere. 😄
