There are things I think he overstates (e.g. the plausibility of AGI) but the points about ‘obligate technology’ and the aggregate effects of accelerationism seem sound to me.

…’Obligate technology’ describes the race that nation states with military industrial complexes feel themselves to be in.

There’s an irony that nation states and corporations are themselves kinds of AI (Stafford Beer https://mastodon.social/@urlyman/113610508240193631). So, we have nation state AIs selecting corporate AI toolsets as a defence against other adversarial AIs.

This is what UK Labour are doing.

But that also operates at the level of the individual, most acutely for young people…

…If you are a student with the world of work ahead of you, do you opt in to the AI-infused path that allows you to accrue the maximum status and advantage before that path, somewhat inevitably, jettisons you?

Or do you opt out and forego those hollow promises and submit to lower status and wealth?
