I first realised this when I watched "The Abyss". Not kidding! I don't remember much about the film, but the scene where everybody is asleep in a big room and Lindsey is working late at night and her ex-husband is snoring and she just says "turn on your side, Virgil." And he does, and stops snoring.

So one night when my wife was snoring, I tried it. Calmly but clearly, I told her to roll over, sleep on her side, and stop snoring. And she did - didn't even wake up. Next morning I asked her if she even remembered - she did not! We taught each other this trick, and it's like magic.

Note - you have to say a clear, immediately actionable thing - "roll on your side". You can't just say "stop snoring" - that requires problem-solving. They're asleep! You want them to stay that way! Also, don't whisper or try to be discreet. Clear, calm voice works best.

So there you go. Thanks for the life tip, Jim Cameron! Or maybe Gale Anne Hurd.
