@Infrapink @woozle @cancel the "AI" bubble has inflated RAM prices, and Micron is exiting the consumer RAM market to chase those AI dollars instead.

All the "memory is cheap" developers can truly shut the fuck up now.
Thankfully Linux people don't seem to have that attitude. Even the big bells-and-whistles desktop environment will run comfortably on 4GB.

Some time in the last millennium I started to install somewhere from 2-4x of RAM than was deemed sensible in my computers and that custom has served me well. I have 64GB in my desktop and 256GB in my main server and I can usually pick a convenient time to upgrade.
