@amoroso I saw the Coherent add in Byte magazine and wanted to buy it. At the time I didn't have the money for the product plus import duties, and a friend had a pirated copy of Sco Xenix which I then used instead and invested the money into a System V book. 😄

I set up uucp to poll my Fidonet mailbox, that was "interesting". Landed a student job at university a short while later where I downloaded Linux 0.95 and haven't looked back since.

What's one to even say? Explain the concept of a shitty creek and no paddles? Congratulate them on all the money saved? Suggest they get their heads inspected?

@Gina same. It's mostly a timing issue in many cases. If you need the functionality now you may have to pay for it. If you can contract with someone to implement it for you, say over 6-12 months then everyone profits.

@Gina I always suggest to do proper requirements management. List what you need and see which solution matches best.

I've been running a private Gitlab instance for several years and have no complaints. Depending on the license it can get expensive but chances are if you need that you may have to pay for getting similar features implemented in Forgejo as well.
