I'm trying to decide how much of "quote posts" I want to support in Ktistec. On one hand, it's not trivial functionality, and I really do question how much extra value someone's comments on someone else's post will add to the Fediverse. On the other hand, I dunno... assuming Mastodon limits abuse by enforcing quoting rules, Ktistec could probably just follow along and display quoted posts. Is there any value in just that?

toddsundsted@epiktistes.com NodeBB has already added in logic to handle the quote post fallback (a "RE: " is added to every quote post) because it interferes with automatic title generation.
I think displaying them is probably the easier half. Publishing them is another matter altogether!

To me, there is a user-experience (UX) between quote-posts versus comments.
A comment is a message intended to be towards the person you are replying to.
A quote-post is a message intended to be towards your followers (in addition to the person you are quote-posting).

Having said that — quote-posts existed on the Fediverse years before Mastodon implemented them. For example, Misskey and its forks have had quote-posts for years! (Other Fediverse software, too.)
And, they work differently than Mastodon-style quote-posts.
So, if you wanted to support quote-posts, you would also have to (explicitly or implicitly) decide on what style of quote-post to support. Mastodon-style? Misskey-style? Etc?

@macfranc @sabrinaweb71 @fediverso Sono d'accordo anch'io che dove ci sono volontari, chiedere supporto economico non è una delle azioni più sagge da fare.
Poi sul discorso della vulnerabilità ai truffatori veri, quando segui bot che parlano di categorie marginalizzate (tipo la disabilità) di richieste economiche ne arrivano a go go. Più che altro, moderatori o no, se ti capita un utente che viene da un'istanza più piccola rimbalzato da un bot e racconta una storia, non è che sempre hai la possibilità di verificare chi sia. Pertanto dare ai paypal in giro per il mondo, meglio evitarlo. Anche se questo può evitarti di dare solidarietà a uno che ha bisogno davvero.

@sabrinaweb71 ti premetto alcune cose:
1) il Fediverso è costituito da progetti volontari autofinanziati e quindi già c'è qualcosa di molto sbagliato nel venire qui a chiedere supporto economico
2) nel Fediverso ci sono pochissimi utenti rispetto a quanti ce ne sono nei socal commerciali e i truffatori cercano tanti utenti e non pochi utenti
3) i moderatori controllano capillarmente le nuove iscrizioni, in un modo che i social commerciali possono solo sognare! Quindi chi si iscrive e, senza chiedere permesso, inizia a chiedere soldi viene contattata e, se non risponde, bannataQuesto riduce drasticamente la presenza di truffatori.
Il rovescio della medaglia?Gli utenti del Fediverso oggi vivono forse in un ambiente iperprotetto e questo può renderli troppo sicuri dell'ambiente; gli stessi amministratori sono poco abituati ai truffatori veri.
Questo ambiente tranquillo dal punto di vista darwiniano non rinforza di certo le specie che abitano il fediverso... Da si possono creare voragini di vulnerabilità

@elettrona @fediverso ci sono alcuni account che si fingono palestinesi (da lì nasce il progetto gaza verified, dove due persone si prendono la briga di contattare via signal i palestinesi per verificare che lo siano davvero) o diabetici che chiedono soldi per l'insulina. Siccome io di solito rilancio la gente che chiede aiuto ne incontro diversi di questi account, ma non so quanto effettivamente abbiano successo nei loro intenti truffaldini

Ci sono truffatori degni di nota nel Fediverso?
Domanda, l'informazione in oggetto serve per un evento. Nel Fediverso è mai capitato un caso come Amanda Riley (scamanda), Alicia Esteve Head, Kira Cousins... Insomma persone che si sono inventate storie drammatiche ingannando milioni di persone in tutto il mondo?
SPOILER: Scamanda ha finto il cancro, Kira ha finto gravidanza, parto, morte del bimbo, cancro... E aveva una bambola reborn, invece.
Alicia Esteve Head, o Tania Head, si è finta una sopravvissuta dell'11 settembre.Mi serve saperlo per il talk, perché accennando ai "contro" dei social commerciali faccio notare che l'algoritmo premia le interazioni perciò più attiri l'attenzione più hai successo, n'importa se sei onesto o meno.

Qui c'è spazio per tutti, e chiunque può finire in tendenza con un contenuto interessante.
Per di più il flusso in diretta e quello di tendenza sono esattamente uguali per tutti gli utenti, senza algoritmi a decidere chi penalizzare o rendere virale.
La chicca più recente? Citando è persino possibile rilanciare e donare più visibilità ai post altrui, anche con tag ed hastag

I've been looking into how to accomplish this too... because it is a UI/UX problem and I am very bad at designing user interfaces.
Mixing them like so works, although it's hard because then it minimizes the size of topics (since it is just the title.) It means microblog content get a bit of a UI boost due to on screen size.
Limiting the max height of microblog posts and showing a snippet of the threaded content OP is another way, but that makes the page more feed-like and less of a "topic listing", which isn't always the way to go either.
For reference, NodeBB also mixes threads and microblog posts. We do this by generating a title from microblog posts. It's not the best solution either.
