  • Thanks for sharing, that's quite exciting. I'm assuming BlueSky users can post to Lemmy instances (like other threadiverse) instances by mentioning the group actor?

  • Last I heard the Forkiverse instance has over 2k members! All the power to them

  • The host Search Engine, PJ Vogt, and the host of Hard Fork, Kevin Roose, discussed their thoughts about a “new kind of Internet” possible with the Fediverse. They also talked about the challenges of the somewhat technical barrier to entry.

I especially liked them sharing their perspectives; the Fediverse seems to simultaneously be a recreation of a pre-shittified Internet and something new altogether.

They even created their own live Mastodon server to see how that would go: https://theforkiverse.com/explore They ended up testing OpenAI’s Operator to do the heavy lifting of coding, but did make the realization they did not know how their own user verification works or how to change it.

I am just elated that there is talk in the “mainstream” of the Fediverse. I’m hopeful that some attention such as this can help raise awareness and pique some curiosities.

  • Why? was there high demand to talk with ICE supporters?

  • The vote counter seems to be broken (it’s different on different Lemmy instances), is this the same issue as Mastodon not federating likes properly?

That is normal, for example if one instance has some users banned then their votes wont count. If another instance doesnt ban those users, it will count their votes as well. Besides user bans this can also happen with instance blocks.

Otherwise, nice! While I am sure Bluesky will enshittify in the long run, for now they seem vaguely better than other corporate social media. Federation can help us make more people aware of the AP Fediverse, or worst-case just have more users to share memes with

Destroying Autocracy – December 04, 2025Welcome to this week’s “Destroying Autocracy”.It’s your source for curated news affecting democracy in the cyber arena with a focus on protecting it. That necessitates an opinionated Butlerian jihad against big tech as well as evangelizing for open-source and the Fediverse. Since big media’s journalism wing is flailing and failing in its core duty to democracy, this is also a collection of alternative reporting on the eternal battle between autocracy and democracy. We also cover the cybersecurity world. You can’t be free without safety and privacy.FYI, my opinions will be in bold. And will often involve cursing. Because humans. Especially tech bros. And fascists. Fuck ’em.The Programmer’s Fulcrum is the future (and smaller) home for a fusion of Symfony Station and Battalion. Its tagline is Devs Defending Democracy, Developing the OMN.You can sign up now and for 2025 get an email with links to each week’s Symfony Station Communiqué and Battalion “Destroying Autocracy” post along with their featured articles. And you’ll be set with TPF after the fusing in January. We are posting on the Fediverse now at @thefulcrum @thefulcrum.dev and original website content will start next month.Featured Item(s)Hamish Campbell writes:ActivityPub is a shared vocabulary, a public language for moving meaning and connection across the open web. It gives you nouns and verbs, and the community defines the grammar through lived use. This is why the OMN works with ActivityPub, a metadata and meaning layer, not a platform, flows, not silos. ActivityPub is the widely deployed 4 Opens protocol that treats publishing as a flow, a conversation.Unlike the more vertical stacks (ATProto is a good example), ActivityPub doesn’t force a worldview. It doesn’t tell you, “this is how your network must be structured.” It doesn’t enforce hierarchy or lock you into one interpretation of identity, authority, or workflow. It’s a KISS path – here’s a shared language, verbs for publishing and receiving, express objects, updates, relationships. The rest is up to the commons. This flexibility is exactly why the OMN can become a part of this flow. Why the OMN works with ActivityPub – And why we need a bridge to p2pWe start and end with good news to make the middle bearable. The response to Russia’s War Crimes, Techno Feudalism, and other douchebaggeryDDEV has:Power Through Blackouts: How DDEV Community Helped Me in UkraineTechPolicy Press shares:How to Test New York’s Algorithmic Pricing LawThe EU’s Digital Omnibus Must Be Rejected by Lawmakers. I find this idea very innovative and exciting. It is being developed by Fedilab, and separates data from relay (a bit like AtProto does) to allow everyone to keep their data, even on a phone Holos - a mobile ActivityPub server that runs on your phone. A relay server maintains your stable identity when you're offline. Switch between text, photos, videos, and articles from a single account. Currently in private development, sharing progress with the community. The account following the development has just 3 posts (with some light technical details) at the time of writing, but the stuff should be published on Codeberg soon.

@stefano Good morning 👋🏻You are entirely right: the real life is not behind our screens. Go outside and meet people that work/live differently than us: this is a good life’s lesson.Enjoy your day 🙏🏻🤗
