    I think there's definitely an underserved space for academics on the fediverse.

    Feed-based mechanics are not good for archival or slower (read: not always online) readers, so NodeBB actually works really well to collect that stuff and present it in less of a firehose-y format.

    For example, here's a NodeBB forum that follows the #medicine tag: https://postcall.pub

    Here on ActivityPub.Space the discussion is all ActivityPub focused and it is really really good at keeping up to date with the latest topics.

    I'd be happy to work with you to start a general science (or more topic-focused) board if you're interested...

    Create/join communities in your field, on Mastodon follow the hashtags and most importantly feed them with posts even if no one answers or interacts, someday you’ll reach the audience you’re looking for

    The academic meme community here is absolutely ace! But what I would also like is to communicate with other academics in my field and share the latest publication and talk about it a bit if possible with peers.

    I used to use Twitter (back when it was called Twitter) to post about my new publications. Now I use Mastodon.
    Say what you wish about the negative aspect of algorithm based feeds, I am currently finding it hard to connect with other academics whose profiles may be dispersed in the wide fediverse.

    Long story short: How do I disseminate my work and connect with other academic peers in my field on the fediverse?

    I'm study biosystems and circular economy.

    There is a FEP for this - https://codeberg.org/fediverse/fep/src/branch/main/fep/3b86/fep-3b86.md it's not something dansup came up with originally. We'll see how close Pixelfed adheres to it.

    PieFed has implemented basic support for that FEP since August 2025 and I just added more today.

    There have been a couple of posts somewhat recently asking what can be done to attract new users to the Fediverse. My answer was basically "make it something new people would want to see and stick around for". The crux of that was basically less news, less politics, less rage and more, well, anything else. So, I would like to propose a challenge to all: Let's try that. At least for a week. Sound good? Here's how you can participate: If you're one who posts a lot of news/politics...stop or at least slow down. Post literally anything else. Or try to post less rage-inducing news and try to dig up the good news that's happening. Sorry !upliftingnews@lemmy.world but it's the regular news communities that are flooding the zone with every single bad thing that happens anywhere in the world, so we may be stealing some of your content with this one. Think before posting something. Are you only posting it because you're mad about it and you think other people should be mad about it too? If so, maybe post something else. Is there already similar coverage of that? Chances are, we don't need more of it. If you're a lurker, post something. Add your voice. Refrain from upvoting / booting all the negativity. Yes, it may feel good to upvote for visibility because "people need to know this" but the end result is the feed turning into a list of things to rage about. If you see good/non-rage news, upvote that for visibility. I've seen many posts like that languish with a few tens of upvotes at most while the rage-inducing news gets hundreds of upvotes. Post what makes you happy rather than what you're angry about. Avoid dogpiling on people if they express a different opinion. I'm not saying feed the trolls or pat them on the head, just merely "disengage" or avoid the impulse to virtue dump on them and such. If you have a hobby, share it! There's plenty of hobby communities that would greatly benefit from additional contributors. If you're boring like me, well, there's !Dullsters@dullsters.net or !dull_mens_club@lemmy.world (the latter welcomes all as the name is just a reference to the original) Anything else you can think of to make the homepage/experience feel more welcoming and less like an angry mob (suggestions in the comments are more than welcome). I know not everyone will participate, and that's okay. Simply adding more positivity and posting/boosting less rage can have a positive effect on what shows up on /all which is what potential new users see by default. So, let's try this for a week and see what happens. Who knows? Maybe the established userbase will find it refreshing as well. Who's with me?

    Thanks for sharing, that's quite exciting. I'm assuming BlueSky users can post to Lemmy instances (like other threadiverse) instances by mentioning the group actor?

    The big feature in release v3.2.2 of Ktistec is pinned posts with support for the Mastodon Featured Posts collection. Federation works both ways—pin a post on Ktistec and it will show up as a pinned post on Mastodon and vice versa. When you refresh an actor profile, Ktistec also fetches and updates the actor's pinned posts. This is another small step in the direction of supporting all features that Mastodon-compatible client applications expect to access via the API. It's also useful in its own right. The other major feature, which I posted a short video demonstrating here, is X-Ray Mode. X-Ray Mode is a developer and power-user tool for inspecting ActivityPub JSON-LD representations of actors, objects, and other content. Pressing Ctrl+Shift+X on any page displays the data behind the page—like an x-ray.     @evan @phi > We have some ad hoc ways to move from one to the other, but they aren't built into the SMTP or IMAP specsyes they are, though? in IMAP, you can just copy your messages and folders from one inbox to another. in SMTP, we have email forwarding.using your own DNS name can make things easier, but the main challenge in fedi is that we don't have a common storage/access abstraction (equivalent to IMAP folders), and we don't recognize HTTP redirects (equivalent to SMTP forwarding).
