@Gargron what a step! thank you so much for helping shape the #fediverse into what it is today, it simply wouldn’t be the same without your work on #mastodon.https://blog.joinmastodon.org/2025/11/my-next-chapter-with-mastodon/ Maybe I wouldn’t have even started working on #ActivityPub for #WordPress if you hadn’t, in a way, pushed me toward it, even if indirectly 🙂https://notiz.blog/2019/08/16/farewell-ostatus/

This is an important thing to consider, and why NodeBB decided to even pursue federation at all. It's arguable that we've reached the point at which forums cannot organically grow due to the ubiquity of social media. Depending on who you ask, we've reached that point 10+ years ago already. It's becoming increasing imperative that forums federate or risk dying due to attrition. Forums used to be the social network for niche topics. Facebook (with Groups) and Twitter (with hashtags) started competing, and Reddit (with subreddits) made another huge dent. There are some communities that fear integrating with AP will cause their local communities to become flooded with just anybody. Those fears are unjustified, but understandable.

I hate to glaze anything too much... but Fosstodon is pretty cool, I'd say. If you moved instances during the troubles you should really consider making your way back home! Miss u <3#Mastodon #Fosstodon #Fediverse #ActivityPub

@stefano @jwildeboer I find this has broader applications…some people want to make Linux (or BSDs) a Windows or OSX replacement in a similar fashion, or refuse to use a Linux or BSD because it doesn't do $THING that Windows/OSX does. But I *don't want* a Windows or OSX. I want that Unix feel, and I'll stay here, even if it's not as popular.
