  • @kathsone @esserci @anze3db @fedidevs please note that m1 admin @filippodb & @amministratore don't even made a single starter kit, so your message is incorrect, the only official starter kit used for new users is this one: https://fedidevs.com/s/NzQ2/

other lists are fanmade selections.and they'll probably add more users or maybe improve the descriptions.

In our selection we really want to add international accounts as soon as possible, we just added mastodonmigration and fediversesymbol

  • Sorry, @socialnetwork , I don't know who @esserci is, nor if he's a troll. If he's a troll, you can block him, but I asked you or your admins @filippodb @amministratore the question.
Could you answer me instead of the troll?

  • @kathsone @esserci @filippodb @amministratore @anze3db @fedidevs wow this is going to be a troll discussion, please note there're plenty of starter pack from the same istance because the faq clearly says:

"It can be used to help new users find accounts to follow, or to promote specific communities or topics."

those idiots are clearly trolling, starter pack are made to privately promote a specific communities or whatever you want.

    just another italian example: https://fedidevs.com/s/NzYy/

  • @esserci Sorry, but I'm not interested in controversy. I just want to help solve what I think is a problem. But I don't want to start a controversy in public because, in any case, the problem doesn't directly concern me.

  • @kathsone that instance was created pretending to be the "Mastodon Italiana" instance, as if it were the official Italian server. It was a clever move because it attracted a huge number of users, but now they might as well stop using these tricks!

Unfortunately, it seems to me that administrators are tempted to confine their users in a cage where they try to keep following the same people from the same instance and the same promotional accounts.

  • You're absolutely correct! (Great, now I sound like ChatGPT)

That said I think that's where implementations like NodeBB and Mbin can apply a bit of pressure and act as intermediaries... we want federation to work well too, and we have to straddle both federation styles!

That gives a somewhat unique perspective on problems and solutions.

  • I honestly feel if the two paradigms did a little bit of effort on interoperation, we could figure this out. But all sides of this atm are like "the other side is doing it wrong" and refusing to look at this.

    @filippodb @amministratore dear Mastodon.uno administrators,
I've noticed that some starter packs you've uploaded to the site have incorrect descriptions: they almost seem designed to promote ONLY USERS of your instance, while ignoring all other instances in the . In fact, they were all created by service accounts on the mastodon.uno instance.

This seems understandable, but I think it's urgent to rename the descriptions of those starter packs to specify that they are exclusively for users of your instance, otherwise they could mislead other users.

The starter packs in question are as follows:

Satira vignette e meme (created by the @satira account, a mastodon.uno service account)Retrogames (created by the @kickoffworld account, a mastodon.uno service account)Profili Free Open Source su Mastodon on Mastodon (created by the @opensource account, a mastodon.uno service account)Ambiente Mobilità sostenibile e giustizia climatica (created by the @ambiente account, a mastodon.uno service account)Fedilug Account Linux Italiani Account Italian Linux Accounts (created by the @linux account, a mastodon.uno service account)Sicurezza digitale (created by the @sicurezza account, a Mastodon.uno service account)Fediverso e Social network (created by the @socialnetwork account, a Mastodon.uno service account)

I repeat: it's right to advertise to your users, but it's important to explain that it's self-promotional advertising. For example, the Mastodon UNO & Official Devol Accounts starter pack clearly specifies that it refers to the users of your instance.

This is out of respect for all Italian users of the Fediverse and for the developers who created and made the fantastic Fedidevs resource available for free.

Thank you for your attention and have a good evening

5 Fediverse sites have been hacked due to running outdated software. Please take a moment to ensure that your instance of Mastodon, Misskey, PeerTube, PixelFed, or any other Fediverse platform is fully up-to-date.It may also be wise to log into your server and update your operating system.Debian / Ubuntu servers:sudo apt updatesudo apt dist-upgradesudo rebootFedora / CentOS / Red Hat / Alma Linux:sudo dnf update --refreshsudo dnf upgradesudo rebootIf you update your OS, your server will be briefly offline during the reboot. If you have not configured your web services — including your Fediverse service — to start automatically on boot, you may need to start them manually afterward.Always make a backup before performing upgrades. If any of this is confusing or feels overwhelming, you should reconsider whether you want to be a server administrator. This is not meant as an insult. It’s great that you wanted to contribute to the Fediverse, but you may be better off participating as a user rather than an admin. People depend on you to keep services running smoothly, and that requires knowing how to maintain your system safely and correctly.#Fediverse #ActivityPub #Mastodon #Misskey #PixelFed #PeerTube #Sharkey #Loops #Akkoma #Pleroma #Mbin #Lemmy #InfoSec #Security #Hack #Foss #OpenSource #Linux

Release v3.2.1 of Ktistec adds support for bookmarking posts. This was so immediately useful I don't know why it took me so long to get around to it!Pinned/featured posts are in the works for the next release. The full changelog:AddedSupport for bookmarking posts.FixedInvalidate user's sessions after changing password.Ignore supplied languages that don't conform to expected format.ChangedUpgrade Kemal. In other thoughts... I'd like to make followed hashtags more consumable. I follow ~10 hashtags and: 1) it's hard to tell what's new, 2) it feels like they arrive in large batches that are difficult to digest, and 3) the reading experience is meh.#ktistec #fediverse #activitypub #crystallang

I’ve been thinking about discovering underappreciated Lemmy instances. GitHub’s awesome-lemmy-instances used to serve a similar purpose, but it hasn’t been updated in a long time, and I haven’t found anything else like it. I got the idea from this post about finding decentralized communities in the Fediverse. I’m thinking of a Lemmy bot that tracks Lemmy instances, calculates the average number of active users and standard deviation, and identifies instances with activity below the average plus two standard deviations. It would then rank these underutilized instances by performance metrics like uptime and response time, and periodically update a curated list on Lemmy to guide users toward instances that could use more participation. I'd love feedback on how you would go about doing something like this. And specifically how to rank by performance.
