  • Thanks for sharing, that's quite exciting. I'm assuming BlueSky users can post to Lemmy instances (like other threadiverse) instances by mentioning the group actor?

  • Last I heard the Forkiverse instance has over 2k members! All the power to them

  • The host Search Engine, PJ Vogt, and the host of Hard Fork, Kevin Roose, discussed their thoughts about a ā€œnew kind of Internetā€ possible with the Fediverse. They also talked about the challenges of the somewhat technical barrier to entry.

I especially liked them sharing their perspectives; the Fediverse seems to simultaneously be a recreation of a pre-shittified Internet and something new altogether.

They even created their own live Mastodon server to see how that would go: https://theforkiverse.com/explore They ended up testing OpenAI’s Operator to do the heavy lifting of coding, but did make the realization they did not know how their own user verification works or how to change it.

I am just elated that there is talk in the ā€œmainstreamā€ of the Fediverse. I’m hopeful that some attention such as this can help raise awareness and pique some curiosities.

  • Why? was there high demand to talk with ICE supporters?

  • The vote counter seems to be broken (it’s different on different Lemmy instances), is this the same issue as Mastodon not federating likes properly?

That is normal, for example if one instance has some users banned then their votes wont count. If another instance doesnt ban those users, it will count their votes as well. Besides user bans this can also happen with instance blocks.

Otherwise, nice! While I am sure Bluesky will enshittify in the long run, for now they seem vaguely better than other corporate social media. Federation can help us make more people aware of the AP Fediverse, or worst-case just have more users to share memes with

Hello ex-twitter users! We are boriken.social, a Mastodon instance creating a space for Puerto Ricans on the fediverse for Puerto Ricans both inside the archipelago and abroad. You can register here. It might take a little bit of time since we are approving new requests manually to avoid spam. But here you are more than welcome!#PuertoRico #MastodonPR #TwitterPR #Fediverse

In general that's a good idea because you should never trust content coming from somewhere else (even in an S2S context) For reference, NodeBB literally sanitizes the bejeezus out of what it gets from anywhere. All classes are removed, all attributes are removed. I want it as close to semantic HTML as possible, and classes/attributes mean absolutely nothing because: I don't use the same CSS classes Attributes may not follow my own rules for when and where they are added. For example, Mastodon messes with any URL it federates out. It chops the anchor text in half, hides the rest behind invisible or something, and adds an ellipsis. invisible does something different in NodeBB, so there is a CSS conflict here. I strip everything and just show the URL as it was intended.

I mean, yes, but there's also an implicit social contract with fediverse software that you probably shouldn't scrape without federating back...?

@Nead @markwynerIf there's a revenue stream, there will be obstacles to the stream. Like self-hosting, other instances, other softwares using the same twisted Mastodon protocol. In the best case scenario those will be competitors to crush, sooner or later. In the worst case they could become the ideological enemy, while they actually ARE the Fediverse. The REAL one.
