I thinking about one thing that #fediverse self-hosting landscape lacks.

Check out this progress on #Atlas. In about two weeks, we've gone from tooting an 85mph brainstorm on I70 to a fledgling app that lets me annotate any location on the globe, and share it over #ActivityPubSo here's a quick video of where it is right now. There's still a lot to do before anyone can really use it. But there's enough here for me to ask for your help. I would love to hear what you think and to start talking to everyone out there who's interested in making maps on the #Fediverse.

RE: https://mastodon.social/@doaagaza/115349862553061790Meet Yasmine, a Palestinian mother who is also taking care of her children, including her daughter, Doaa, who has cerebral palsy. Yasmine showed me her daughter Doaa during the verification call that @aral and I made. It broke my heart to see her. Please support her campaign as much as you can.https://www.gofundme.com/f/6ucaxm-help-yasmeens-family/wa/o?v=amp14_t2&utm_campaign=man_sharesheet_dash&utm_content=amp13_t1-amp14_t2&utm_medium=customer&utm_source=whatsapp&lang=en_AU&attribution_id=sl%3Aba300dd7-0845-4bd4-9a32-29721c2323d4#gaza #palestine #genocide #mutualaid #fediverse #GazaVerified

Emphasizing moderation differences and such are things best left to discover after the user successfully lands onto the fediverse. At the start they shouldn't even have to think about what instance they want to land on. We're approaching it with the mindset that they "want to join Lemmy/Piefed" — that's not right! They should want to join a specific community, and the server just happens to be whatever they find first. Let's say I like Star Trek. I shouldn't have to be redirected to startrek.website. I should be able to see the community, think "cool I want to participate", and sign up, even if where I landed happens to be feddit, db0, or a random NodeBB instance.
