    @tomstafford @clive @mastodonmigration IMHO Big Tech social platforms have trained people for decades to desire to build a personal brand. So the discourse is all « me me me pay attention to me, I want more followers more likes more comments. Pay attention to meeee, more more more » … (this applies to the culture of Bluesky too IMHO).Conversely, the Fediverse is delightfully collectivist and anti-brand… and I LOOOOOVE that ❤️Big Tech platforms now give me the ick

    #Mastodon and #Bluesky aren't going well in terms of adoption. But if the company behind Bluesky dies, the service is gone, whereas Mastodon can be self-hosted for cheap, and even if all other instances shut down, it's still a working website with a functional RSS feed.Fediverse is bigger than Mastodon, too, even WordPress can participate.This is the difference between decentralization that works, and pie in the sky solutions baked by VC-funded companies making promises they can't keep.
