  • Hokay, I've launched a webapp at https://discoverfedi.app

    What's it do?

    - Let's you browse the federated timeline of a selected instance (use the change instance button to switch to something else, with mastodon.social being the default)
    - Can switch to image-only view for a more "instagram" kind of feels
    - Search the entire federated network (uses the fedi observer api, is a bit wonky and am still working out the kinks)
    - Search hashtags on the instance you're currently viewing
    - Save the instance you're viewing to "favorites" (stored as a cookie)
    - Show/hide NSFW content
    - Uses GardenFence to block harmful instances from being accessed in the search and display (although blocked content may show up in an instance's federated timeline, this is one of those dents in the development that need un-dented)
    - Light and dark theme changed manually, or adjusted to system settings
    - Requires no logon credentials, no registration, since many many many instances are publicly visible
    - Works nice on a phone

    Issues:
    - Some instances may return an error
    - Some instances may not display properly, especially across different software
    - Search is a bit funky

    Why?

People outside of the fediverse always complaining about how difficult it is to see what the heck the fediverse is, or choose servers. Well, the problem? There's well over 20,000+ servers, and this may or may not fix the issue of "finding things" lol

This could be an iOS/Android app, but I don't feel like paying Apple or Google money for dev accounts

@cmdr_nova oh that's interesting. I used to use mastovue for that but with glitch.me shutting down I was looking for something else.

@cmdr_nova great tool, but I don't see sociale.network there. It's because our server settings or are you filtering small instances?

  • Can someone recommend a platform for stable and long term-ish hosting? I started a vimeo account at https://vimeo.com/user125809554 a few years ago with the intent of sharing and lectures and presentations of research papers, but it has turned out to be 90% videos. 🤷‍♂️ Anyway, vimeo seemed like a better (non-google) option than the "default" youtube at the time, but I want to transition more and more of my stuff to the . I pay vimeo now, so I am willing to pay a peertube platform as well, of course. Preferably or even , if possible.

Release v2.4.14 of Ktistec is small in terms of features and fixes, but it improves in two areas where I thought Ktistec was weak: light/dark mode support and autosave.I'm not hardcore dark mode, but I do prefer it in some cases. Ktistec selects light or dark mode based on the browser or system setting—there is currently no means to select the mode directly. A nice side effect of light/dark mode support is that custom theming support comes nearly for free.Figure 1: Ktistec editor showing the Dracula themeKtistec was meant for writing. I post my fair share of one-line bits of wisdom, but I started building Ktistec because I wanted a space to write long form, and existing Fediverse platforms were more for social interaction. When writing long form, autosaving is an essential feature. Ktistec will now autosave draft posts and replies. If you navigate away before publishing, you can always find the incomplete draft in the Drafts collection which is accessible from your timeline page.AddedAdd design system page for previewing UI elements.Support custom themes with automatic light/dark mode switching.Add autosave functionality for new posts, draft posts, and replies.ChangedAdd external link indicators.#ktistec #fediverse #activitypub #crystallang
