@_elena wow. I am on mastodon for years now and last year in august I bought two small pc to setup a server for my church and one for me. Both with yunohost which I find really great. Next cloud, my own mastodon instance, searxng, readeck, firefoxsync, writefreely and castopod and matrix.
I am curious on what you mentioned in the year 4.
As a side effect: in January I left WhatsApp and I am now metafree@jenshansen @_elena Grande 😀

Year 1 (2023):
It feels a little lonely as 99% of my friends stayed on Big Tech platforms.Year 2 (2024):
I start a blog - #TheFutureIsFederated - to explain the fediverse to "normies"... and I make a lot of new (techie) friends.Year 3 (2025):
My techie friends encourage me to start self-hosting with #YunoHost... and I do! (GoToSocial, PeerTube, NextCloud...) I LOVE it.Year 4 (2026):
I plan to buy a Heltec to try out off-grid mesh radio communication 💁♀️@_elena twitter was only ever a thing for me for pro sports updates, and certain niche subjects I follow, and it was such an angry and hateful place that I don't miss it much.

btw, /me is trans anarchist and as such has a strong loathing for rust and appreciation for c's ubiquity@wyatt @david_chisnall @_elena That's a good point, can you give me some examples of systems you tried to use where compile times were excessively long compared to equivalent C or C++ code? Or maybe even ones you tried to compile to, but it wasn't available as a target.

@wyatt @david_chisnall @_elena This also brought to mind that code organization does matter. I worked at companies where C++ compilation of a project took 45 minutes or more. So, it's definitely not just a Rust problem once the code base grows big.

@EI3JDB @_elena @david_chisnall these are just invalid commands, a good assembler won’t produce them. But things like adding numbers are safe.
