I tried cron jobs and it drove me crazy even with an IT background ;)All the best!
I fall in live with systemd timers which were much easier to handle/understand/debug to me.
If someday you want to try. -
Of course, if you need/want a log to see why the script fails you can temporarily send the log wherever you want like ~/mylogs/cronlogs/oh-no.log (or permanently)
And later you can learn about logrotate to keep a certain amount of logs but not let it grow forever and fill up your drive.

@_elena oh I would also suggest looking into systemd timers! I much prefer them to cronjobs.

The Fedi is a trap!
I'm degooglifying, demicroslopping, detwittered, avoid Adobe, & only use Messenger because family & friends won't leave.
I've got Linux on my PC, & expect to switch my laptop. Seriously considering setting up my old Pixel Pro 7 (a crap phone I won't recommend) with GrapheneOS, because why not, it'll be fun.
Occasionally I think about self hosting, & I really want to get into Home Assistant.

@thefathippy @_elena GrapheneOS is awesome. Better than Google Andoid in my opinion. You can set up different profiles. That way you can even use Google/BigTech stuff but lock it into a seperate profile with no personal data in it.

I start a blog - #TheFutureIsFederated - to explain the fediverse to "normies"... and I make a lot of new (techie) friends.Year 3 (2025):
My techie friends encourage me to start self-hosting with #YunoHost... and I do! (GoToSocial, PeerTube, NextCloud...) I LOVE it.Year 4 (2026):
I plan to buy a Heltec to try out off-grid mesh radio communication 💁♀️@_elena Me too! have a urge to install more apps as I went, I love Yunohost

@thefathippy Con confirm, 3 years into being a fedi user I switched my 2015 laptop to a Linux install 😱 I also host my own fedi instance now. Abandon hope all ye who enter!

In case you haven't discovered reticulum yet, it's meshnet build with strong e2ee by default that does not discriminate between different transport methods, but is home to many.
So you can use it over amateur radio, Bluetooth, internet, LoRa and more.
