A new social me

@sturmsucht A great read. Much better than my clunky recent post about my Fediverse journey 😄
@pete 😄 please share it!

@sturmsucht Great post, and welcome here. I hope more people feel like you do and join the fediverse to enjoy fellow humans on the internet.
@fatboy I hope so as well. It does come with the cost of really overthrowing you trained social media pattern so. Not easy, especially if you are in your 20s and didn't experience the OG internet.

@sturmsucht
An excellent read. I wish I had room for a bicycle in this apartment, just so I can share stories of how to fix it.@ewen we should get you a smartphone! :D

Excellent text. I bookmarked it.
« The connection and reach that Instagram made possible decades ago have basically vanished, and the direction big tech social media took - and is speeding toward - is reflected in the global numbers of user activities. »
We have on going group conversations for friends and family on Messenger, SMS, Signal or whatever because social medias are no longer the place for keeping in touch with friends and family.
@MichelPatrice thank you so much! And you are right. People abandon the global town square for smaller, direct groups.

@sturmsucht an interesting post, thanks
-
@sturmsucht I really enjoyed that. I've found the same thing and was so glad to see all the ways you are finding being in the Fediverse beneficial.

@kotking it's a journey, especially if you have been around the internet for longer then 10 years. Love the CS reference. I'm happy to have found my place here.
-
@sturmsucht Thank you for this post. I really enjoyed reading your take on social and how you have adopted a shift in your small business. Keep up the great work and thanks again for sharing. Cheers!
@gabrielmarkley Thank you so much! I'm happy that social media has become and "add-on" again instead of the "purpose" for my photography business. Going to write some more things about the business side in the future.

@sturmsucht This is what I call "a must read" 👏🏻 Thanks for sharing.

This explains why I often feel like the only one on Earth who *doesn't* think social media is evil.
The #Fediverse *is* what “social media” means to me. I've heard of Instagram and the rest, but I've never actually used them. I've never struggled with their algorithms. I don't even know what that's like.
So when politicians talk about banning social media, I'm horrified. Why would anyone want to ban this place? This place isn't hurting anybody. And where else would I socialize?
@argv_minus_one Lucky you! 😄
And lucky us that the Fediverse / servers are normally too small for regulations like ID check. -
@sturmsucht that blog post resonated well with me, thank you. I'm feeling so much better since I left corporate social media behind. The Fediverse is the only place that I find enjoyable.
@lenzgr Happy it resonates! Connecting here is so wonderful as this place is full of great people. I still sometimes wish my business would be less social media dependent. But I work on that.

@sturmsucht More social networking.
@jajo 100%.

@ewen we should get you a smartphone! :D
They'll never catch on, just a fad.

@sturmsucht Can imagine, I bailed on FB years ago, oh and Twitter, but never used Instagram etc. So I missed most of the modern algorithm manipulation, but even for me the Fediverse is very “quiet”.

@argv_minus_one Lucky you! 😄
And lucky us that the Fediverse / servers are normally too small for regulations like ID check.Only a few ID-check regulations have a “too small” provision. Most of them do apply to Fediverse servers, and therefore make it illegal to operate one.

@pete loved it. And also this one: https://five-magics.net/physical-media-comeback/
Seems like we are on the same path. 😄
