Sometimes I get a really good quote in. -
There have been exactly two innovations in web browsers in the last 16 years:@jwz I miss the clock widget on Mosaic. It really helped me not waste an *entire* night on the WWW.

What the actual fuck.@sundogplanets Sounds like they used AI to generate this. The Kardashev scale is a classification of _civilization_, not "situation". I see this sort of auto-correct in lots of AI slop.
Recent news articles kept referring to Tom Human as the Border Guard.
If this wasn't so serious, I'd laugh.

How many people here would be interested if I did a digital security/privacy advice blog somewhere?@evacide Yes, please. I find these things come in "weak sauce" for people who just want "a bit more" in their lives. There are others along a spectrum; what I'd like is a guide from someone who *actually* has to resist the efforts of people with money and resources. (I'll still read, even if you aren't going to do that, since you still have far more real-world experience with this than anyone I know.)

In the early days of personal computing CPU bugs were so rare as to be newsworthy.@gabrielesvelto The 6502 had no bugs. Just some undocumented features.

I just received a reminder from building management about an overdue maintenance bill.@SteveBellovin I get a bill from the ISP, every month, for $0. I grok why, since the ISP is paid for by the HOA. I think they're just mad they can't get me to buy upgrades. "Let's just spam him."

Mozilla wants your input.@jwz I would happily pay the Foundation IFF they do those things you list. I want my browser to be my tool, not someone else's. I never mind paying for things of value. But I *won't* pay for things which victimize me to enrich someone else.

This is the document, Trump does not want you to see.@randahl You say that as if "laws" and "treaties" have some sort of effect on the current Administration. As was clearly stated in "The Art of the Deal", Donald Trump has *always* broken his contracts. He *recommended* that you get subcontractors to start the work, and once they've invested their labor and materials sufficiently, you simply break the contract and re-negotiate the deal. That's his "Art". Just like the Scorpion in the tale, we knew what he was before we took him on our backs.

Nicolás Maduro Charged With Felony Oil Possession@theonion @SteveBellovin Well, we *did* say Venezuela was distributing a harmful substance which threatened American lives. I believe fossil fuels match that description probably better than whatever other substances come to mind.

So how is OpenAI going to know that a user is under 18?@SteveBellovin @evacide I majored in physics. The error bars were the most important part of the data analysis. It was often seen that undergrads would take their data, run a linear regression, then plot the data plus regression line. But the error bars were so large that you could draw that straight line in (nearly) any direction.
