and the saguaros got to hang out with their teddy bear chollas, the ocatillos got to enjoy the company of their lorge barrel cactus friends

and skinny christmas cholla making red fruits, other cane cholla making delicious buds (but you gotta know how to collect them without being chollaed), and our friend the night blooming cerius with her giant fruit

there were tiny baby cholla just starting out, and cholla who had clearly devoured everything except this person's tshirt.

the little cactus friends were cute and happy - graham fishhook cluster, left, maybe the tallest ones are 6" tall, hedgehog cactus more like 12", next to their elderly and nearly defunct fishhook barrel friend.

This midmorning turned out to be the perfect time for a long desert walk. It had rained overnight, and was cool with cloud cover and just a little breezy.

The desert was so beautiful!
