so i am going to preemptively cut it off: i can put whatever i want in CoC for example, sure. but the reality is:
- most people don’t actually read it, and
- bad actors will ignore it anyway
which brings us back to the beginning where i am manually banning bad actors for doing bad work.
and at that point it doesn’t change anything from what i’ve already said.
but it feels good, right?

what I will say is: you want to use an AI tool to help you prepare an MR or an issue report or whatever? that’s YOUR decision. i’m not the boss of you: you do you.
BUT: it is on YOU to make sure that AI tool is producing good output. if YOU waste my time by making me chase down convincing but ultimately bullshit output from your tool, then YOU will be banned from my projects.

when will it end?
while CDNs are useful, i would argue that many people don’t properly incorporate them into their threat modeling.
you should not pass sensitive information through any CDN service, as they are points where TLS decryption happens.
actually my dad researched ML-based jamming buddies back the 90s, but LLMs didn’t exist yet, so it had some really cursed Tcl/Tk frontend with knobs to tune the algorithm’s output.
and it was limited by the state of MIDI in the 90s
unfortunately, instead of that, the offerings on the market are basically advertising jingle generation as a service
which is … fine i guess. advertising rarely has soul anyway.
hot take, maybe, but a chatbot that can act as a session musician to jam with would actually be useful to me. probably one of the better use cases honestly for chat as a user interface, because it is easier to just describe what you want than twiddle a bunch of knobs (and ML can provide some level of entropy/improvisation)

wrapped up my talk about #wayback at @XOrgDevConf about an hour ago.
i think i’ve accomplished my goal with it: to spark a conversation on how to get the missing pieces filled in. in the Q&A a few interesting paths were identified to investigate, hopefully the hallway conversations will be similarly insightful.
my dream is to be able to come back next year and say that legacy X has been fully superseded by wayback. i feel like we are close to solving the puzzle.
