"Data is the new oil" is so true.
We (tech people) interpreted that as a promise of well paying jobs and opportunities.
But we missed the depth of the metaphor. It's an extractive, exploitative practice. It will only make big corporations richer. And it poisons the planet.
All that talk of AI, data centers being built and consuming more energy? It's mostly because we need data for analysis and to feed those models, and we collect every little action, store it and process it. Data is the fuel.
