In context of the buyFromEU/buyeuropean gist (on reddit and lemmy) this ideas get floated every second day. Mostly in regards to linked in and X.

@rudi @hpod16 Afaik, the development of Mastodon was in parts already funded. There was a bug bounty program and some 43k € well spent.

Ex eBay employee funded that network and it will be verified users only. Nothing said about the technical approach, but it will surely have either paid accounts and/or ads.

Talking digital sovereignty without any follow up actions gets shallow.

More problematic would be the acceptance of an instance provided by the EU. There would be a lot of trust issues, so that offloading that to a third party would yield better results.

Maybe it is time to search for letters in the alphabet that aren’t taken (x , w , …)

@hpod16 I’m glad you’re having such a good start!

My point is that others struggle with the concepts/software for whatever reason.

There are dedicated pages for onboarding, but I feel a broad coherent campaign with sane defaults would be a greater pull factor.

How was/is your onbording experience?

A lot tech savvy people I know, simply say it is still too complicated and either don’t sign up, or when signed up struggle to find content and let their accounts go stale.

It took some work but with hashtags and starter packs I found all I need. Some people are even missing algorithms even though mobile clients mimic them 🤷‍♂️
