The Greens (and Lib Dems and SNP) have been consistently in favour of changing it for years/decades. A couple of years ago even Reform said they were in favour, though this was before they were 1st in the polls.
So yes this is an inevitable consequence of the rules — and Labour chose the rules. The belief that the voting system can't be changed may be a load-bearing part of Labour's perennial tactical vote.
