@MsHearthWitch depending on where you are, you might have ‘shared pathways’ that are for biking and walking. For low stakes biking, I plan my trips around those and minimize street time.
I try not to be a fuck cars type cyclist because when cars fuck back they tend to win.
Watch out for exits to residential areas and other stop sign related things that overlap with sidewalks (the ones that let bikes on them), the drivers tend not to be looking for cyclists, and pedestrians move a lot slower. I’ve gone over the front end of a car before and I know other people who have as well (people don’t stop at the sign, they stop where they can see the oncoming traffic, even if they’re not supposed to).

Local cycling bylaws might include lights, a bell, helmet, reflectors, etc.

@cR0w I mean, have you looked at how amazing asbestos is?! It’s dirt cheap, fire retardant, multipurpose. What’s not to love?
Obviously all that medical hoohaw is just big fiberglass trying to use government intervention to stifle innovation so they can maintain a monopoly.
And all the problems (not that I’m saying there are actual problems) only happen when you try to take it out. I mean who in their right mind would want to get rid of perfectly good asbestos? That’s just a fiberglass moneygrab.

@dazo it’s like they don’t understand that people moved away from Chrome for a reason. By actively making themselves more like Google they are removing the incentive to move from Chrome to Firefox. And incentivizing moving away from Firefox to literally anything else. Their user base consists almost entirely of people who are willing to change browsers. Not understanding that will cost them. Probably not as much as it should.

@cR0w @boblord those industries have actual, real, Big E, Engineers. With Standards. And stamps. And liability. And consequences.
They are held personally responsible for their mistakes, and are thus incentivized not to make mistakes. (And like you implied, maybe not intentionally, they are also incentivized to hide their mistakes. Which is why inspections need to be done by unbiased third parties).
That is what software needs. Standards, Regulation, enforcement, consequences. And third party inspections. Real Engineering.

    Edit: part to party

@boblord @cR0w what was that when Boeing famously took over their safety inspections by providing trained inspectors to whatever acronym it was. I heard that went famously well for them. The kind of well that documentaries were made about it.
