Tried to descale my espresso machine. Made it worse. Probably should have done a full translation of the instructions instead of getting the gist of it and saying "eh, close enough." Definitely have to take it apart and see what I can clean piece by piece now.

Upside: I think I needed to replace a seal somewhere anyway. While it's disassembled I can also incorporate a scale like I've been meaning to. Let's see if I can set up data logging. And water treatment; I definitely underestimated how hard the water is here. If I need to replace parts, I get to learn more things!

Downside: I REALLY hope there isn't any irreparable damage to the expensive bits. I know the boiler in my generation of Gaggia Classic is better than what they're producing now, so I really hope I can restore that fully.

Practical side: this is going to be a whole project and I'm not going to have espresso for weeks, am I?

@SRLevine update: I have a mutual here with superpowers. he told me where to look and was mere centimeters off. (🤯)

@SRLevine oh yes, I'll find the old one when I put away the new one sometimes. did that with a bike hand pump recently. but this time I checked every place I would want to put a wrench and it's not anywhere. I probably set it down "just for a moment" and will find it under something in a year.
