I owe Merlin Mann @hotdogsladies a debt of gratitude.@ctietze My tweaks to Org mode are each trivial, and likely uninteresting to anyone else. Almost all of them are methods visually to hide things in order to examine items one at a time. Lots of keybindings to reduce friction. Everything possible to reduce distractions, decisions, executive fatigue.
The point is that within the System EVERY transaction is MINE. And that with email (mu4e) and tasks/projects (Org) tightly integrated and optimized to my personal quirks and whims, the whole is much, much greater than the sum of its parts.
These successes require a tiny bit of coding skill, alas, but much more crucially they required the Four Freedoms.

I owe Merlin Mann @hotdogsladies a debt of gratitude.I owe Merlin Mann @hotdogsladies a debt of gratitude. In 2005 he introduced me to #GTD. Twenty years!
For the first ten years I flailed around: didn't really get it, couldn't find the right software, didn't have an #ADD diagnosis.
In the last ten years, it clicked. Narrowed the scope and dropped irrelevant cargo-culting from GTD, got treated, and wrote my own #OrgMode customizations. Another big part was Merlin's wise encouragement to be gentle to yourself.
Also twenty years of working on something habitually pays off.

Golden Age Silicon Valley got away with it, but Trump Era Silicon Valley is naked before us all, with the pedal to the metal, LEVERAGING externalities TO THE HILT in order to Medievally ennoble five or six maniacs and Medievally enserf the remainder of humanity.

Students ask me iF vIrUsEs NeEd ceLLs tO LiVe aRe ThEy ReAlLy aLiVe?'nAnd I answer "If I sent you to the rings of Saturn, you're not alive. This very Buddhist idea of no boundaries between you and the "surroundings." This very Buddhist idea that "life" requires, is co-equal and identical to, this planetary system. Including the sun and the moon!
Two of the ideas that are "subtle" and "non-intuitive" to the modern Western mind, but in themselves self-evident and trivial. My favorite catchphrase, maybe the best of the two or three possibly original thoughts I have ever had, is:
"Ecology is economics without externalities."
(Or surpluses, but alliteration. Also tautology. Anyway.)

And I answer "If I sent you to the rings of Saturn, you're not alive. If you need the biosphere to live are you really alive?"
