I've held for a couple of decades the extremely unpopular opinion, that in this kind of area the West is gonna come to resemble the other side in the new cold war (the CCP) rapidly and to a significant extent, and I'm not seeing anything to change my mind recently.

The thing about this European Chat Control issue is that this is exactly the sort of thing we used to be horrified by when the Soviet Union registered typewriters and such.
