open source funding situations are either like, GambleCashCoin Foundation (eg clearly Russian mob etc), War Crimes Division of the War Crimes Country, or None (barely hanging on by a thread at all times).

I don't actually understand how Signal is funded -
the way so many outlets write about "AI" is so incredibly irresponsible.the way so many outlets write about "AI" is so incredibly irresponsible. they'll take a story about a study that showed a majority of people in a field say it's making everything worse with no upside and then still spin it like "this is controversial! but it's here to stay. it's already happened. and the c-suite loves it" like you clowns writing this drivel are class traitors, think for a second about what you are doing here and ask if you're really going to be spared for acting like their pet.

"rationalist" movementlooks insidenothing but unquestioned assumptions and cultural bias@mcc @ana identity and inborn qualities make for a really bad pairing with "intellectual integrity" / being rational and smart and correct, and LW is a community built squarely on that identity - again because of that bone deep commitment to being exceptional. one has to be willing to divest from those concepts entirely and being a flawed and biased and wrong-half-the-time creature despite best efforts, and owning the consequences of that.

"rationalist" movementlooks insidenothing but unquestioned assumptions and cultural bias@ana i still believe that the most fundamental common trait of rationalists is the belief that they are exceptionally "smart" and special and able to perceive reality more clearly than average people. everything else (the scientific racism, the overall treatment of women, the moral contortions, the various forms of fixation on "superintelligence") flows out of that.

it's funny that we got "change the quote-ability of an already published post" but still don't have "change the boost-ability of an already published post".it's funny that we got "change the quote-ability of an already published post" but still don't have "change the boost-ability of an already published post". i've wished for the latter a thousand times or more in my 9 years here.

Greta Thunberg could have, by now, carved out a very comfortable life for herself as a liberal grifter-celebrity offering platitudes about personal responsibility at Davos.Greta Thunberg could have, by now, carved out a very comfortable life for herself as a liberal grifter-celebrity offering platitudes about personal responsibility at Davos. Instead she connected the dots between ecocide, capital, and empire, aiming squarely at the heart of the beast. And now fresh out of captivity she downplays her own suffering to recenter the urgency of aid to the Palestinian people. No wonder she's hated by the fascist+lib coalition that rules this world.

Finally got Castlevania III which I have always found to be the absolute best looking and most artful NES game.@PsySal sometimes when C64 games do character mode backgrounds with custom tiles mixing fg/bg colors to create variation they get kind of messy and expressionistic in a way that i like. this was the concrete example i could think of but there are plenty of others.
