@afewbugs @suearcher my favourite repeat offender is having unsealed chipboard or MDF edges butted against a tiled floor, which is tiled because you expect (a) people to spill liquids on it and (b) it to he mopped regularly... Those edges soak up gross liquids and the wood expands and rots... In my home I've run a fat bead of silicone caulk around the edges of the kitchen and bathroom floors! Also turns the acute 90° grime trap into two 45°s so easier to clean!

I work in IT and just a few days ago was reflecting with somebody on how often user workflows are ignored (in the context of systems where you log in to see some protected data having poor support for showing others that data; I was congratulating them on having a good mechanism for making a share link!)

@afewbugs relatedly, I'm pretty sure the people who design kitchen and bathroom fittings and furnishings have never cleaned a bathroom or kitchen, and don't do much cooking either

@futurebird the back of every kitchen utensil drawer in a British house owned by grandparents contains at least one utensil whose purpose is now long forgotten, but was essential for one of these Victorian recipes.

@mcc I often think about how a 16MiB 486 was perfectly capable of displaying and editing any document a human could reasonably write. Advances since then have allowed for higher fidelity images, and audio/video playback, and yet software that does neither still consumes gigabytes of RAM. I hate often wondered about adapting a coredump analysis tool to do a top-down breakdown of how the address space is actually used...
