@mattblaze 30 seconds? Pretty long but exposure looks pretty much perfect. Very sharp lens too - the text above Lincoln is easily legible. Four score, so 80 megapixel? - means the image could be printed very large.

Captured with a Phase One IQ4-150 with the Rodenstock 23mm/5.6 HR Digaron-S. This is a very wide angle lens (the equivalent of about 16mm on a full frame 35mm camera) that makes Alcatraz seem particularly distant. A long exposure averaged out the waves and tufts of mist.The San Francisco Bay likes to show off its weather. Karl the Fog moves fast. Everything can change very quickly.I believe this was the last photo I made in 2020 away from the east before the pandemic reduced my travels.

This composition plays with the contrast between the ambitiously-sized sign and the humble, rustic old store. The photo is about shapes and scale.This is also a bit of a nod to Grant Wood's famous 1930 painting, American Gothic. (See https://www.artic.edu/artworks/6565/american-gothic). Wood's painting was inspired by a grandiose, ornate attic window in an otherwise humble rural farmhouse that Wood happened upon during a road trip. The absurdly oversized, incongruously Googie-style arrow sign here reminded me of that.

@mattblaze how are you doing that? Beyond protests and calling my reps, I’m having a hard time because I feel like I don’t know what to do that would be more productive than despair. Maybe small acts of resistance ARE enough if they add up with everyone else?
