I'm sure we've all seen demos which were shoved out into production, then somebody realized the model wouldn't scale, or had all sorts of vulnerabilities and brittleness.

The amount I say "Just because it works doesn't mean it's right."

Functionality, maintainability, efficiency, elegance, scalability, portability, development cost, development time.

Looks like the MBA crowd has noticed they can use tools to affect one or two variables, and since they don't understand the others, those must not matter.

We'll be cleaning this mess up for decades.

There was a good article floating around a while back called "your eyes suck at blue".

It showed that you can take any random image and double the size of the blue pixel, you won't be able to tell (or just barely.) They even suggested a pixel layout of a blue diamond with two green triangles and two red triangles to form a square.

Looks like a corollary is that you can get away with much less blue resolution!

  • Today I experimented with a Yankee screwdriver when I would normally use a power drill.

You can get hex base drill bits that fit in the small electric screwdrivers, those make a nice, slow, lightweight power drill.

The Yankee is neat, but I've found they are more likely to slip - and when they do, they can gouge up the piece you're working on.
