No, opposing LLMs isn't "purity culture."@Li @subterfugue @xgranade OP is literally insisting that it doesn't matter if you use AI, as long as you're not using it to generate code. Yep, I would call that pro-AI.
-
No, opposing LLMs isn't "purity culture."No. That's provably false. Investors rely on hype to make money. We, the public, can reject their advances and loudly proclaim that we have no confidence in their investments.
-
No, opposing LLMs isn't "purity culture."@subterfugue @xgranade No, I meant to respond to you. AI is causing those harms, so rejecting and fiercely opposing the use of AI is harm reduction. Get it?

No, opposing LLMs isn't "purity culture."@subterfugue @xgranade This isn't just about money or code friend.
Ever heard of AI psychosis? Children who were directed by AI software to kill themselves? Environmental devastation from training and using AI models? Trauma caused to underpaid workers in the global south, without which these AI models would never have functioned in the first place? People getting fed lies about their own health by using an AI model to find out what ails them? Misinformation caused by people using AI software like a search engine? Etc. Etc. Etc.
AI is a fascist project and an irredeemable system. Doing all we can to reject and destroy AI is one of the biggest moral imperatives of our generation.

Duckduckgo has a survey for pro/anti-AI and I cackled so hard at the (current) results@Wintergr33n @lexfeathers I think we're both talking about regulating AI, albeit in different ways. I want it regulated like chemical or biological weapons, with severe penalties for using it in any way, shape, or form.

Duckduckgo has a survey for pro/anti-AI and I cackled so hard at the (current) results@Wintergr33n @lexfeathers Sorry friend, but you can't have one without the other. It's the system that's rotten, and it's why we need to reject AI in all its forms.

https://apnews.com/article/wikipedia-internet-jimmy-wales-50e796d70152d79a2e0708846f84f6d7@samlitzinger This is blood money, which will undermine Wikipedia's mission and speed the advance fascism across the globe.
Guess I'm gonna make an offline copy of Wikipedia bc I want nothing to do this project anymore.

Reminder: Cory Doctorow isn't worth listening to.@lina I don't really follow. What is he missing / what specific sin is he committing in your mind? I don't see Doctorow as being particularly pro-capitalist (I'm an anti-capitalist as well)
-
Reminder: Cory Doctorow isn't worth listening to.@lina Powerful antitrust; right to repair; interoperable software; a new, open web; strong labor unions; digital privacy for everyone; and leaders who respond to the actual needs of the people. He's being singing this song for years if you're willing to listen.
Call him out when he's wrong, but to say he's useless because you sometimes disagree with him is fucking stupid, sorry not sorry.
-
Reminder: Cory Doctorow isn't worth listening to.@lina Doctorow has pretty explicitly identified, many times, enshittificaiton as a core tenet of unrestrained capitalism. He also has been a very forceful voice for muscular antitrust, so I'm really not sure how you came to this conclusion.

@glyph Did you quote post something?@glyph @mitsuhiko The way to avoid plagarizing is simple: stop using AI, and use your own damn brain.
2026 is the year of the human, didn't you hear?
