@hedders I mean it’s been over 20 years since I watched it, so I can’t actually remember any specifics. I just remember finding it deeply uncomfortable and having a “I can see how this is supposed to be funny, but it isn’t” reaction.
I’ve not attempted the US version; I suppose I shouldn’t be surprised it’s very different - while I think any characterisation of “British humour” vs “American humor” [sic] is overly simplistic, the prevailing tastes do seem to diverge quite a bit.

@justine @stefano I remember a housemate at uni thought it was brilliant and made us watch it. Personally, it just made me feel like my insides were tying themselves in knots so I bailed out after an episode. (Also, Ricky Gervais is an arse for consistently punching down in his “comedy” routines.)
