free open source software needs fewer engineers and more designers and product people@hopeless yeah i don't do any FOSS work it's true

free open source software needs fewer engineers and more designers and product peopleis it as simple as surfacing the figma file of your open source project as highly as your repo?
can we start the readme with our user stories instead of "how to run locally"?
should we use project tracking? should we A/B test??
should we moodboard????

free open source software needs fewer engineers and more designers and product people@hopeless found the dev

free open source software needs fewer engineers and more designers and product peopleTHIS THREAD IS FACETIOUS AND TONGUE IN CHEEK AND OVERZEALOUS IN ORDER TO SHAKE UP AND CHALLENGE EXISTING NORMS DO NOT TAKE IT ALL AS 100% ACCURATE AND COME FOR ME

free open source software needs fewer engineers and more designers and product peoplethe industry does not work like this at all! but open source completely omits product design
-
free open source software needs fewer engineers and more designers and product peoplebut okay, how do we fix this?
we need to make space for design and product work within collaborative open source software somehow. there's PLENTY of space to walk into if you're a dev: make an issue / make a pull request / make a fork / use a package / blah blah blah
but there's none if you're a designer / producty person. what do you do??????

free open source software needs fewer engineers and more designers and product people@flpvsk the same incentives that keeps bazillions of engineers involved
-
free open source software needs fewer engineers and more designers and product people@yaxu strongly disagree! there are huge incentives for designers and product people to get involved with volunteering, just like programmers.
and yes accessibility is a huge factor of this. getting design and product-oriented people involved means software becomes accessible to more people
-
free open source software needs fewer engineers and more designers and product people@inscript you should meet some designers!
-
free open source software needs fewer engineers and more designers and product people@inscript the facetious division I'm making is in resistance to the status quo arrogance / view that diminishes creative design and product work while boosting the importance of programming. I'm challenging that narrative by inverting it. that imagined inverted world sounds surprisingly not-so-bad, which calls into question our current priorities

- programmers designing things is a *negative* side effect.
- from my experience, "scrappy" is also rare in the design world. -
free open source software needs fewer engineers and more designers and product peoplewe gave the tech nerds too much power

free open source software needs fewer engineers and more designers and product people"[just] use IRC"
"[just] use a forum"
"[just] self-host by shushing into your prill scropt. it's easy you [just] prantiss a few cuntwobs. what's the big deal? there's no excuse. [just] spin up a brosh instance." -
free open source software needs fewer engineers and more designers and product people@inscript designers are not vernacular programmers. programmers are vernacular designers.

free open source software needs fewer engineers and more designers and product peoplewriting code should not be the primary way of contributing to free open source software
