Hey, #forkiverse folks. Welcome to the fediverse! 👋
Since every instance has its own administrators and moderation rules, it's a good idea to be kind but also to report and block randos who aren't nice. That's how this all hangs together and it mostly limits the cesspool to instances where they're into cess... or pools? I don't know what they do over there. 😹

There's something sweet about assembling electronics in a van in a mostly ignored section of desert.@bouriquet That isn't the first time that comparison has been made. Honestly though, my quality of life has improved so much by spending time tinkering in the desert that it feels more like Breaking Good.

It ranges between almost freezing at night and 50s and 60s (10 to 15c) during the day which is perfection IMO. At night the smols and I snug in for books and films with occasional breaks to look at the stars.
This little assembly will control a few relays and respond to RFID taps, all thanks to ESPHome.

I am not a canologist but this one I found in the Mojave looks "kinda old".I am not a canologist but this one I found in the Mojave looks "kinda old". I'm tempted to soak it in rust remover and then take a wire brush to it.
I don't know. What do people do with old steel cans?
There are many abandoned mining sites where for quite a large area the scrub has collected cans and other containers that were thrown by the winds. I can't imagine that rust is great for the flora and fauna. -

It's a great example of how preventative maintenance is one of humanity's most destructive blind spots.

Some device forms, no matter how old, only pick up steam when a new generation of people get access. Some device forms, no matter how old, only pick up steam when a new generation of people get access. Teens (and younger) with VR rigs cheap enough to be common holiday gifts could be a larger wave of active enthusiasts than we've seen before. That's happening now.
XR glasses for kids have a long way to go because have you seen how hard kids are on basic glasses? As long as XR glasses cost as much as a nice holiday gift, few parents will buy several pairs each year as they break and are lost.

DRM in browsers was an attack on users and a gift to grifters.@ajroach42 (I worked on W3C and Khronos standards for Mozilla)

DRM in browsers was an attack on users and a gift to grifters.@ajroach42 The W3C is captured by the simple tactic of the big corps sending 10 people for every 1 from other groups. Having any effect in standards is a full time job and it's expensive to travel to the meetings so few small groups have a chance to have influence.
Google having 75%+ browser share means they no longer need to negotiate, too. -
