In many cultures, the collapse of civilization is considered a bad omenThe signs of collapse were/are there all along, but most people choose to live in denial until it's too late. The early signs are usually subtle, then get progressively worse over time. Kind of like taking an ocean cruise on the Titanic & saying, "I'm ok ~ you're ok," as water fills up to one's ankles.
