thinking about how foreign the concept of an "upgrade cycle" is to me.@whitequark ngl for me it's kinda more often "too many different newer shiny things have captured my attention that this one has faded away from my mental space" than legitimately outgrowing the capacity

At the start of this year I decided to relocate.@KimCrayton1 oh, huh, very interesting to hear that distinction! I've mostly been hearing that "expat" was a sort of a vague euphemism that USians and brits use to not call themselves immigrants, not that it was specifically about "replicating the same experience" o.0

It's really going to be absolutely critical that we be able to hack on and trust the hardware we use.@cwebber one thing though is that the hackability of the whole surrounding hardware around the SoC itself is.. kiiind of a superficial thing? most of the "computer" is inside of the SoC, the PCB and the metal/plastic shell around it aren't that interesting to "hack" imo. except for maybe making your own board to fit a SoM into a cool retro laptop you like.. but if the whole laptop is already "made to be hackable" there's kinda not much need to do anything at all?
I like MNT, of course, but I think that selling point is kind of a stretch.
