Also if I may add, having followed GOG for some 9 years now, it always seemed to me like their worst side is transparency/communications, only starting to change in recent years but weakly so. Having them share the information openly, even if by newsletter, is to me quite the improvement already.

I guess they noticed that pretty much nobody uses FB any more. It's mostly just bots and dead people who have that account.

The issue likely lies with the GOG integration in Heroic: https://github.com/imLinguin/comet Looking at this ticket: https://github.com/imLinguin/comet/issues/57 It seems the game is problematic and you indeed need to downgrade it. I guess you don't have to restart the game, you are just missing the achievements obtainable only before where you are now in the game. If it still doesn't work, you can reach out to the maker of Comet, he is really friendly and helpful.

Oh, I got the Alone in the Dark trilogy the other day yeah and I don't think I ever got a free game on GOG before. But I'm pretty sure I unsubscribed from their newsletter when they sent the email this Thursday. I did it again, I hope it works this time, else gonna have to contact support.

A case like this takes money and years of efforts. I don't think any indie dev would be willing to spend that much, especially knowing Valve can afford incredible lawyers. The evidence would have to be really convincing for this to even be worth risking. Those messages not being accurate could also make the plaintiffs liable for lying under oath.

Just to clarify, Bandai Namco has published some games on GOG. No RPGs though.

I was unaware of all of this. I'm on Linux so I don't use their launcher. I've seen sketchy EULAs that are game specific but not heard about DRM

I just installed Cyberpunk today and maxed out my internet connection at 50 MB/s Assuming you kept all your games installed, yes you could probably transfer them over to another system. But do you really keep all your games installed at all times? I know many people have more games in their library than their storage can handle.

@Solumbran @JigglySackles there was a particularly heavy handed show off when visa and Mastercard were going after adult games on other platforms in a «but them before we're forced to delist them», but other than that I don't remember them being pushed particularly strongly

The developer's website has a detailed FAQ section on that. In short, though Valve doesn't seem to have explained or told the developer what needs to be removed or censored, the developer thinks it's to do with an early pre-release scene where a man brought his teen daughter to the horse farm, where she sat on the shoulders of a naked woman representing one of the farmer's horses, who in the game are used and abused like their real-world equivalents. Though the developer has subsequently replaced the girl with a 20 year old and pixelated the nudity, Valve and Epic still didn't find the game acceptable.

If you want to be a goody two-shoes, buy the game, download the .exe, and "lend" it to him - never play your GOG version while he’s playing, pretend it's a physical media you have only one copy, and just keep playing your Steam version. However, if you read their terms, it’s actually legal for you to keep two copies of the game - like one on the device you’re playing and another somewhere else as a backup. So you can legally lend your game and still keep a backup copy.
