I think fedi making decentralisation the main thing while skimping on good UX has hurt it and is part of why it's developed a toxic white angry nerd perception to outsiders (many such cases in FOSS lol, fedi toxicity mainly comes from FOSS hobbyist extremists)

flaky@furry.engineer I agree, but I don't think it's a conscious choice to favor decentralization over design/UI.
I think what the most likely explanation is, is that those interested in building activitypub applications are highly technical and find the decentralization aspect more alluring than designing good UI.
I know I personally am quite terrible at design.
