@CathyBikesBook I think you need a new account in order to use Lemmy, it should federate iirc.

No. Best to get a Lemmy, Piefed or Mbin account for the threadiverse
The only other Fediverse "social network" I've been able to log into with my Mastodon account is NeoDB
Doing so creates an additional NeoDB identity (visible on both NeoDB & Mastodon) but logged in with my Mastodon ID & sharing its profile

Lemmy was my 1st Fediverse account, getting off Reddit. I still do the "threadiverse" (Reddit-style posts) but now almost entirely through a Piefed account, which is compatible with Lemmy but has faster development & additional features.
Every now & then I try out yet another aspect of the Fediverse so I've built up a collection of Fedi accounts, https://linksta.cc/@klu9
Might try Friendica (Facebook alternative) or Wafrn (Tumblr alternative) in the future
