"Yeah. So the, I think we are at a bit over 130,000 total bridged accounts on BridgyFed right now, which is good."
That's kind of impressive.

@stefan Wow!

@doktorzjivago Trying to dig into this a bit more.
On https://blue.mackuba.eu/directory/pdses I see atproto.brid.gy as the largest PDS with 41,787 accounts.
That's quite a lot! But then is the rest accounts/blogs bridged between other platforms? Or is the site missing data?
Maybe @quillmatiq can shed some light on this?

@stefan Part of the answer is that this PDS user count doesn't include any of the Bluesky accounts that have enabled the bridge to the fediverse.
That's because only fediverse accounts need to be on the PDS, Bluesky accounts already have their own PDS to begin with.
The bridge bot on Bluesky has 67.2k followers so that's the number of Bluesky users who have opted in.
Still short with 109k accounts. @mackuba might not count spam accounts but I doubt that accounts for it all.

@ikuturso Ah, of course, that makes sense! Thank you!

@stefan That number only includes Fediverse -> Atmosphere. This doesn't include the other direction!
We're well over 140K accounts bridged, approaching 150K I believe ☺️

@quillmatiq Yes, an obvious point I missed, and someone just explained in another reply.
Thank you! And congrats, that's a big milestone!

@stefan ...until the cryptobros that control BS now decide it's time to cash in. They always cash in.
We won't, but they never don't.

@jpaskaruk There are people trying to build up the Atmosphere, away from Bluesky's control and influence.
Blacksky is already running independently. Eurosky and Northsky are also making progress.
The network is slowly decentralizing, see https://atp.fyi/network
Not sure if the efforts will be successful, maybe Bluesky enshittifies before the network meaningfully decentralizes, and they'll bring it down with them.
Maybe they won't. We'll see!

@stefan In the end I have no emotional investment in a protocol; only in who is in control of it. I trust the people behind Mastodon far enough. I do not trust Cryptobros ever, and if they're in the room, they are a problem you will also have to manage, at some point.

@jpaskaruk Oh absolutely, we are definitely in agreement here!
I guess I have not completely written off the Atmosphere as a community. I do applaud the progress that has been achieved, and wish them all the best.
And with efforts like https://github.com/msonnb/fedisky and https://github.com/ThisIsMissEm/activitypds, and wafrn already supporting both protocols, who knows, maybe there will be room for both in the future!
