I have an account on infosec.exchange and it's a good instance. The character limit is 11,000, search indexing is good, and it has two alternative instances, infosec.town and infosec.place, with threads locked. Almost everyone there is from the infosec community: programmers, open source developers, etc. And the admin, @jerry, is a great guy. -

@jerry thanks, I have my shortlist down to two instances.
I currently lean towards beige.party. because whenever I browse its local live feed alongside mas.to, the beige makes me feel better.
Would you like to suggest any other instance?

@grahamperrin I think we shouldn't go crazy with doing BSD only stuff. @stefano often posts other types of posts, and that shows that this instance is supposed to be more a hangout of BSD enthusiasts than a BSD forum.
Then again I don't know what you mean by things that don't belong in the cafe.

@grahamperrin Hachyderm's character limit is 2249 characters for me. I've mostly been able to fit my long toots in there, but if you need 2000+ characters you may need to try something else. Good luck finding a new instance. :)

Lots of options you have listed there. I don' think you need move though, but of course, that's up to you. I tried having more than 1 account and it was too annoying for me. I'm sure you'll find your "next home" soon :)

Sorry, I should have reworded that entirely! What a goofball I am. I was going to offer up my snac instance, but after reading your list I don't think this tiny snac will be what you want at all! :)

I'm pragmatic about levels of engagement here and elsewhere.
Looking at other instances' local live feeds, in isolation, was … erm … I'm not sure how to describe the overall experience, but it was worth it.
