@jwildeboer We might have to throw out all those A.I.sloppers like Google, and take back OUR internet!
@jwildeboer But the question is: even if we manage to throw out the destroyers, will that what is left, still be OUR internet? Or is there too much damage and A.I. slop already?

@energisch_ On The Web, yes. But the internet is bigger than the web. After 30 years, it might be time to think about new things.

@jwildeboer as far as I can tell, the only thing between google/youtube/etc being as big as they are today, and a completely decentralized internet (or even internets!), is the people's tendency to latch onto comfort and be afraid of change.
If everyone would dump big tech in favor of selfhosted grassroots communities and systems, we could become the next big tech ourselves
If everyone would buy a meshtastic node today we could have another internet
Anything is possible if you work towards it
Meshtastic is more like a telegram service than the internet.
Totally onboard with the "self-host all the things", though!

@evryway @jwildeboer selfhost all the things!
and I mean the bandwidth is very limited, but it depends on what you want to do with it; some ideas:
- use it to negotiate higher speed connections on different direct protocols
- bare minimum optimized comms, kinda 80-90s style instead of the modern "let's wrap everything in a fat high overhead variable dump interpreted by a full application we send to you as whole every (uncached) page refresh"it's also more of an example of things we could make

It's the internet, people. It's OUR internet. Just because we decided to trust Google to not be evil doesn't mean that Google decides the future of the internet. We may very well have lost The Web, but we still can make the Internet of People. Decentralised. Unownable ;) Being here on the #Fediverse is part of that.
@jwildeboer fediverse and mastodon??? Can you tell me the difference

@seharinsights The fediverse is a collection of connected services that use the ActvityPub/ActivityStreams standards. Mastodon is one of those services. Peertube another. And there are many more.

I’d like to think of us all as digital velociraptors. Smaller than a t-Rex, maybe with feathers, but we will find a way.

说得对,互联网本来就该属于我们每一个人。就算网页被巨头绑架了,至少还有联邦宇宙这样的地方可以找回那种自由的感觉。

@jwildeboer The Web will always be ours. Sure, corporate greed thought they could own and control it. But the Real Web existed long before it became the so-called world wide web. We already used bulletin boards, usenet, chats, mail and echomail on FidoNet.
Society will prevail above corporations 😘

@jwildeboer you're right.
I don't think we decided to trust Google as much as we just had a lot on, though 😃
