If you were going to start posting about cool servers that aren't run by Mastodon GmbH on the @Mastodon account, which hashtag would you use?

@haubles @Mastodon #ServerSpotlight is perfect for this!

@haubles @Mastodon #ServerSpotlight is good but out of context I wouldn’t immediately think it was referring to anything Mastodon-related. What about including Mastodon for context? Like #MastodonServerSpotlight or #MastoSpotlight or #MastoRecs?
The “server” word feels very server-y, as if it pertains to physical hardware (running home lab servers etc) but that’s my bias! :)

@haubles @Mastodon feature sounds endorsed (or perhaps in vague reference to a feature of a server), highlight somewhat has the same issue or somewhat implies that that server is superior imo, but I think spotlight works well as it gives you the mental image of figuratively "shining a spotlight" on a particular server as to show how cool it is -

@haubles #Fediverse. It's already established and busy, helps divest servers from the smaller Mastodon sphere and doesn't scare non-techies with the use of "server" in the tag.

@wordsmith 100%, we'll definitely add #Fediverse and #Mastodon to these posts too, but want a dedicated one for people to scroll this content specifically too

@haubles @Mastodon Server Spotlight was my vote but I'd really recommend mirroring @FediGarden as well in posts because their work there and their other Fedi projects have been so helpful to me as I moved to Mastodon and they already do a similar thing so would be good to boost from both ends.

@stefan hahahaha I sure do! https://hachyderm.io/@haubles/116845826496261433
I love doing something like Community Spotlight, but is that too much of a namespace collision with the Community Spotlight blog series? Maybe I'm overthinking it!

@pablobm @haubles @Mastodon For what it’s worth… yes “instance” makes more sense to me personally (cough nerd cough) but I suspect it’s not as familiar and accessible to new folks. I like that Mastodon (the org) has been shifting to “server” as it’s more familiar to people. (Though no one says Gmail is their email “server”. Hmm, I’m not sure what they say! Normies don’t discuss servers or instances or providers…) 😅
