Good morning Fedi friends!

Good morning Fedi friends!
I'd like to create a custom #Fediverse t-shirt for my upcoming talk at #BerlinFediDay.
I thought of maybe using the Fediverse logo as the "O" for "HOPE". What do you think? Trying to gauge if it's cheesy or not, I'd love some external opinion 😅
@_elena@mastodon.social I'm also on the "HAPE" boat...
I'm bad at design, and don't know what kind of freedom you may have with the design, so spitballing here:
What about having the t-shit as an entirely flat color, with the logo centered, either
- small, just under the neck
- center of chest area
- small, right on the navel (this is weird, but definitely different than anything I've seen from other tech swag)
maybe write something ("hope", or even "fediverse") around the neck, or the hems. -
@_elena Alternative option?
@thisislieven @_elena other alternative is the fediverse logo as P hole.. 🤣

Like so? I don't hate it but the focus is on the word rather than the logo, which feels like the wrong balance to me.

@_elena I would buy it.

Actually... (what do you mean, I should get to work?). Building on that idea, this might work.
(I shall stop spamming the thread now)

@_elena To me, that reads like HAPE. Sarry, eh I mean sorry.

maybe add some extra smaller text, like "join the fediverse" underneath, i don't know
my reasoning:
you know what the symbol means, i know what the symbol means, but most people do not. so putting a little education into the design is just the right bit of extra, i think
(and i know it's for berlin fedi day, and they will know, but it gives the t shirt some extra potential for other contexts, and any media disseminated some extra oomph)

@_elena I like it, although I first read it as "HAPE"

@_elena Could it be HYPE, too ?

@_elena I also really like the general idea and love the focus on hope, but like @mjj my brain flipped a bit between “HOPE” and “HAPE”.
(But I don’t see any other helpful logo ideas - https://wedistribute.org/2024/09/history-fediverse-symbol/ - so this is perhaps the best to go with!)
And now I want one of these shirts, too! 🤣

@thisislieven @_elena maybe you're right!! 🤣 Second version seems balanced!!

@_elena Alternative option?
@thisislieven Maybe rotate (or color-swap) it, so that the green disk or the bright blue disk are the «O»?
Those two colors (symbolizing plant growth and a clear day sky or something, respectively) traditionally represent hope in western culture(s). (As seen e.g. also in the respective flags/logos and accent colors of the international language Esperanto and of the United Nations Organization.)

@thisislieven (Though vibrant yellow can also stand for the hope sunshine brings, and the Fediverse logo probably looks best with the bright, warm colors on top.)

@danyork
In this article the 2010 icon, Federated Social Web Logo, shows how logos are perfectly functional as monocrome.I'm not saying that it's enough to remove colours from the current logo to let it work, cause it will remain too much symmetrical, while this basic problem has been solved (by a designer?) in the old one.
-
@_elena at a first glance I thought it was "hype" instead of hope.
@BjornW I can always count on you Bjorn for great and honest feedback. Thank you!!! ❤️

@das_g That would require really altering the original logo, which is a no-go? Given how it's tilted the only other option I see would be to do HOPE vertical with the green dot as the O but I don't think that would look good.
I understand the colour theory though, but I think you can make an argument for each colour. Red could be a call to action, purple is a colour of diversity and unity.
Yellow just happens to be the one on top.

@_elena would you be allowed to put a row of fedi project logos below it? Though I suppose then people would pick at the order, so maybe it is just better to leave them off. I like it 😀

Maybe I'm being dense here:
Is HOPE related to Hackers on Planet Earth (or something else), or it related to the title of your talk?
All capitals makes me think abbreviation.
