Side note: A mile or two behind this shop is the (now inaccessible) abandoned ghost town of Drawbridge, CA, which is slowly sinking into the bay. But thats another story for another day.

Skin Deep Antiques, Alviso, CA, 2013/Captured with a small mirrorless camera and 18mm lens, on a small tripod. I had no shifting lens, so this was shot head on with a wider lens and then cropped.
Harsh midday sun is normally not ideal for architectural photos, but the hard light nicely brought out the clapboard siding of this (since demolished) rather dilapidated old former antique shop.

Found on Bsky, but feels truthy to me:@cstross This shows the limitations of a 2d model here, with no option for "punch both the Nazi and the annoying guy the the lower right quadrant".

The freaking *British royal family* is doing a better job cleaning house than we are.

Margie's Candies, Chicago, IL, 2015What caught my eye here was the line of people at the door. Something about the way they were dressed felt timeless, like the photo could have been made at any point in the last 50 or 60 years.
I'm not a street photographer, but this scene seemed worth a try. Fortunately, everything moved slowly enough to allow me time to set up my clunky tripod and gear.

Margie's Candies, Chicago, IL, 2015Captured with a Pentax 645Z (a medium format DSLR) and a 75mm lens. I had no shifting lens for the 645Z, so I shot a bit wide and cropped to maintain the geometry.
The main challenge was the red neon, which was so bright it washed out the red channel and would have required overly darkening the interior in order to expose properly. This was a rare case where contrast filtration couldn't be done in post. So I used a blue optical filter to darken the red, allowing reasonable exposure and tone.

I may be the last person to figure this out, but in case I'm not:I may be the last person to figure this out, but in case I'm not:
My Mastodon browser tab started making an irregular, infrequent beeping sound a few weeks ago, despite my having turned off notification sounds literally years ago.
Turns out the latest Mastodon version (which added quoting) also added a new category of notification sounds that's ON BY DEFAULT when you're quoted.
There's a switch to disable it in the settings on the notifications tab.
You're welcome.

"But you're just creating a bubble with all this blocking.""But then you'll never find out about dissenting views". Actually, it was finding out about their views that led me to block them.
-
"But you're just creating a bubble with all this blocking.""But you're just creating a bubble with all this blocking." Yes, exactly! There are people I simply never want to hear from. And they probably don't want to hear from me, either. Good fences make good neighbors, as they say.

Park Junction, Philadelphia, PA, 2010.Addendum: Hobo moniker tags are a rathole you can spend a lot of time going down. I recommend the somewhat obscure documentary "Who Is Bozo Texino", which I just noticed seems to be up on Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gSqMAADNKA8

Park Junction, Philadelphia, PA, 2010.This was made with a DSLR and a swinging lens to provide selective focus on the milepost at left. This moved the plane of focus to be non-parallel with the sensor, yielding only a sliver in focus.
Image was was captured at "Park Junction" in Philadelphia, where the former Reading Railroad once met the former Baltimore and Ohio Railroad. What caught my eye was the old school graffiti moniker on the base of the milepost, in a style traditionally used by yard workers and hobos to tag freight cars.
