@smallcircles Just re-thinking this a moment... What if it can be seen as individuals that define their own communities (which may / may not overlap).

@smallcircles Well, there are a couple of potential negative connotations to the word user.  First, "user" was frequently used in the 90's for the customers that purchased some software products.

Then there is also the connotation of "drug" users.

Maybe the Fediverse is better thought of as groups of participants in communities that may or may not overlap.

@smallcircles Exactly, it's kind of like each person has their own topography of what the Fediverse looks like based on who they are interacting with, and the nodes of interests where they intersect.

I don't see the Fediverse  as "media". It's a network, it's about communication, not about being passively fed algorithmic garbage.

It works because I get to engage with the people I want to engage with, and don't end up doom scrolling or being rage bated (most of the time).

@mttaggart The layers of delusion and irony to all of this is just staggering. One Ai gets pissy, and another AI writes a delusional article about the pissy AI... What a world we live in...

@dansup Well, I might think Matrix would be a better option -- especially as it is getting a lot of attention in the sovereign software communities now.

@G3rt Zappa actually did explore the possibility of running for offfice. The thing was that the research showed that he couldn't have gathered a large enough cross-demographic support to sustain a run.

I have this fantasy of him running against Trump... He would have wiped the floor with him, and given how many people grew up with his music he would have much broader support.
